After our well-deserved break, we head to the Royal BC Museum to learn more about the history of Victoria, including the role of indigenous people. Next on our agenda is the nearby Legislative Buildings, designed by the famous Victoria architect Francis Rattenbury, where we experience an informative in-house tour.
Next we travel by private car to the famous Craigdarroch Castle, built by Robert Dunsmuir who was then the coal baron of British Columbia. Once home to the Victoria Conservatory of Music and venue for Hollywood movies. We are then able to make the short drive up Gonzales Hill, sight of the Gonzales Observatory with its stunning views before heading for a well-deserved lovely afternoon high tea.
e begin our tour with hotel pick-up and the morning is spent doing a guided walking tour of Victoria, beginning with Chinatown which is the oldest in all of North America with its Chinese school and famous Fan Tan Alley. We explore old town enroute to historic Bastion Square, home to the original fort of the Hudson’s Bay Company. We pause to take a mid-morning tea/coffee break at the famous Murchie’s on Government street.
